Some plants will just make a bird sick and some can kill. There are many unknown factors with plant toxicity to birds.
Having a cockatiel doesn’t mean you can’t have houseplants, although some plants are toxic to birds. DO NOT use wood from any tree or plant that has ever been chemically treated with pesticides or any other type of chemical. Few actual studies are available in regard to plant toxicity and specific species of birds and so we should err on the side of caution. I have edited this list to reflect recent knowledge, there are no plants that are listed as safe that I know to be unsafe. Most Australian plants are safe, but not all. What has been tested in humans, has not been tested on birds. I also don't take anyones word for plants that aren't on the list unless they have personal experience with their own birds chewing it. But, a whole nursery of plants can exist in perfect harmony with your feathered friend, including those in the following list: African violet.
