Austin is drunk and singing, which is distracting Lee, who is seated at the table trying to write his script, painfully pecking away at the keys, one finger at a time. Summary. Austin, a writer in his 30s, has come to stay at his mother's house outside of Los Angeles while she's in Alaska on vacation. After a pleasant gripe about the subject, Austin asks whether Lee went out of the house the night before. Lee gains narrative power while Austin loses it. We learn that their mother is on vacation in Alaska and that Austin is Lee marvels at the degree of security measures their mother has taken to protect her materially worthless belongings, which include a plate with Idaho printed on its face.
